The Beginning
MCE Limited saw its inception in 1976 in a one room office in
Birkirkara, where its line of activity was limited to selling plastic raw
material and participating in government tenders. In 1982 the
company moved to new premises in Valletta. Here a new direction
to the company was given by the introduction of the Tooling
Division, handling engineering cutting tools and measuring
instruments..
Company Profile
This new activity involved for the first time the stocking and
distribution of goods. By 1984, MCE had already established itself
as leaders in this new activity. At the same time the company
continued to diversify itself and in the same year MCE introduced
another line of activity. The Electrical Division started to stock and
distribute electrical installation and lighting materials, including
switchgear, cables and luminaires.
MCE House
By this time, the demand for more storage and office space was
really felt and by 1990 the Company had completed the
construction of its new complex: MCE House. MCE House was
officially opened in June 1991 by H.E. Dr. Censu Tabone, then
President of Malta
At the turn of the century the company started to take on turnkey
projects and successfully completed many floodlighting projects,
earthing and lightning protection projects, HV and LV installations
and installed and commissioned very large generator sets.
By 2002 the company took another direction and took on the
stocking and distribution of commodity polyethylene plastics in high,
low and linear low density for both blow moulding and film
applications. This was done after MCE had already proven itself to
be a reliable just-in-time supplier for many clients for engineering
plastics.
At this time also the company embarked to enhance the electrical
division with the distribution of plumbing materials and this division
was re-named the Electrical and Plumbing Division.
For the third time in its history, the company realized that it had
outgrown its warehousing facilities, and in 2003 initiated the
construction of the second phase of MCE House in Qormi. This
phase included new parking facilities, additional storage area, larger
offices and facilities for a new shop for the Engineering and Tooling
Division.
